How do you roast coffee?
Roasting coffee is a fantastic blend of art and science. The two come together best when the roaster tunes into the process, using all of their senses; everything from smelling the differences in the beans as they get roasted to listening out for the difference in sounds as the beans progress through the roast and then measuring the data as the roast goes on. Roasting is relaxing and engaging and like any skill is learnt. Experience gives the best lessons and knowing what is happening from tuning into the senses is the mysterious art who’s mystery is nothing more than thousands of hours of practice.
We roast our coffee beans fresh, in Battersea, by the river using our Geissen coffee roaster. You can come down and watch the process when Grey is in carrying out roasting duties. We take our coffee seriously but we have fun whilst we do what we do. Come on down during the day and watch the process of green coffee being transformed into the delicious, intoxicating beverage which is a part of all of our daily breakfast routines.
Why choose Freshly Roasted Coffee?
Our subscription means you will get the freshest, tastiest and most luxurious coffee delivered to your home. The difference between this and supermarket bought coffee is, wait for it, freshness and batch size. Why does freshness matter? The two things are tied together in that the smaller the batch size, the more frequent the roast. Roasting frequently means fresher beans. We roast in small batches to make sure that our coffee is fresh when it arrives with you. So much so, that we schedule roasts and deliveries around orders so you can get coffee delivered on the very next day after it is roasted. Super Fresh!! Super Cool! That’s Black Cab Coffee.
Why not supermarket Coffee?
We’ve got nothing against supermarkets but, they buy their coffee in bulk most often from roasters that roast in huge batches and supply them with beans that are not straight out of the roaster, shall we say. Coffee goes stale pretty quickly (3-4 weeks is the ideal window for drinking coffee made with our beans). If its pre-ground, that makes it even quicker at 2-3 days before the coffee can be considered stale. Support your local & small businesses and buy your coffee direct from a small producer.
